So what is laser texture ? It is a economical and practical grain process which use laser to engrave patterns designed on mould so we can make products with patterns that traditional etching unable to provide. Let us see graph bellow for the process.


Advantages for Laser Texture Process
Compared to traditional etching process, the laser process is so precise that the laser light beam diameter could reach 15 μm and avoids surface grains defects caused by human error resulting in part unqualified. Furthermore, texture patterns from natural world has rich details and distinct gradations which could be copied to interior parts by laser process with tender tactile impression due to 3D Stereoscopic effect. And it also can control the direction and size for various details to make joints texture of different work pieces the same with main surface, as well as multiply copy capacity, simplifying process procedures.
Laser Texture Mould Fabrication
1 Process Area Marking
To have mould 3D data and mark the area which need to be processed for texture.
2 Draft Angle Analysis
As texture engraving would influence processed area’s draft angle, to analysis which according to mould data is necessary, and normally every one more angle allows 10~13μm deeper for laser engraving. If how deep for the texture is required, we have to analysis and modify the data at mould design phase.
3 Process Simulation
Preliminary processing simulation should be carried on according to data so that processing angle of texture area can be confirmed.
4 Texture Design
For automobile developing project texture is a tiny part but significantly improves interior sense quality. Using laser texture can create wire drawing, carbon fiber, leather, double suture, mesh, cloth and even sense of technology, future and intelligence that traditional etching would not do.

5 Texture Engraved on Tool by Laser
Put the texture pattern into mould 3D data and calculate process procedure order then introduce it to machine, as soon as the parameter set up the laser firing process goes on. It is necessary to shift all surface construction data into gray bitmap and add up those 3D digital graphs by 3D animation software to make sure the laser beam arrives at target area at the best angle of 90°.
Five axis laser process machine can make the laser beam hit target areas of complicated surface configuration. Laser texture tool requires the process extremely high positioning accuracy and repeat accuracy that every stroke the laser beam only cut down several micron material. Layered processing is applied to make the engraving in different construction depth and may takes longer time of 50 times or more strokes to finish one place.
6 Moulding
To have the laser texture mould on machine molded by injection or pressing and finally get the products with designed texture patterns.
7 Applying to Automotive Parts
Laser processed texture has been used on automotive interiors and exteriors like instrument panel, car stereo, steeling wheel, door panel, radiator, console box, lamp, rear light, rear view mirror, etc and even intelligence surface with touch functions.
