Advantages of In-mold Decoration
Decorating parts with complex geometry
If you are working with a complicated piece of equipment, sometimes the shape of it precludes traditional decoration. It would usually need you to hand-apply, or even hand-paint, a surface.
Better damage resistance
The process of creating in-mold decorations means the pattern is much less likely to succumb to harm. In an applied vinyl or paint, someone could remove it by pulling or scratching at it.

More sustainable methods
Because imd does not use traditional adhesives, you no longer need to discard as much material. Many of these are often harmful to the local environment, too.
Lighter components
With some automotive parts, reducing the weight of the component is key to success. This is most often the case in professional racing, where every gram of material counts.

IML injection molding process is a very robust method for decorating consumer and industrial products. IML gives product manufacturers the ability to have multiple colors, graphic effects and/or textures when the part comes out the mould. It is a cost-effective alternative to pad printing, hot stamping, paint and laser etching. IML has many advantages over pressure-sensitive labels such as its ability to eliminate secondary operations and problems typically seen with an adhesive application.

Application of In-mold Decoration
Electronics appliances
IMD film is extensively used in electronic appliances, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, desktops, in-wall switches, handheld game consoles, mouses, and home appliances like washing machines, air purifiers, sweeping robots, remote controls, cookers, and refrigerators.
Medical devices
In the medical field, IMD is used for devices such as diagnostic equipment, blood pressure monitors, handheld devices, and control panels.
Automotive industry
IMD is highly valued for components like dashboard panels, control buttons, and interior trims in the automotive industry. Silicone-based in-mold decoration films used in these applications offer high resistance to wear and tear, exposure to sunlight, and extreme temperatures.
Production Process of In-mold Decoration
Printing
Patterns are meticulously printed onto a film according to the customized requests, ensuring the precision and clarity of the design.
Forming
The printed film is pre-formed using heat or vacuum techniques, allowing it to take on the desired shape and contour.
Cutting
The formed film is carefully cut to the required shape, ensuring it fits perfectly into the mold.
Insertion into mold
The cut film is placed into the injection mold with precision to ensure proper alignment and adhesion.
Molding
The film is injected into the mold, bonding the film to the product and embedding the design securely.
Demolding
The final product is removed from the mold, with the film firmly attached, resulting in a durable and aesthetically pleasing finish.
