Pillar Injection Molding

It's like a house which has pillars for supporting the structure that ABC pillars are three ones for car inner space. A pillar is between front wind shield and front door window which connects to the rear view mirror. B pillar is between door windows at single side. C pillar is between rear triangle window and rear wind shield. The naming system adopted for the pillars may have possibly been originated from their shapes as seen from sides.

There should be consideration about material, inclined angle and width when do the A, B, C pillar design that too heavy product raises car weight and not enough angle raises wind drag which get fuel consumption increased, and too width would extend blind spot being unsafe at turning. Furthermore, the pillars should be tough enough to keep passengers a space of protecting if the vehicle turns over or crashes.

There may be defects like deformation and weld lines during ABC pillar injection moulding process, we can do modifications on product design and mold gating system. Mold flow analysis would verify feasibility and correction that smooth and proper filling, no weld lines and air trap, low pressure and deformation within tolerance.

For the cooling circuit, the distance from part surface should be within 20~30mm, while the interval of cooling channels should be within 40~60mm, if the mould construction is not jeopardized.

To set proper air vents and utilize mold flow analysis to add venting on where air traps by using inserts and venting rods.
